“Will The Art Change?”

“Will The Art Change,” “How Will The Art Change” and “The Art Will Change” are all things I considered as titles for this latest post.

I do know that with our recent election our psyche has experienced a paradigm shift. Our conversations around art have already started to change.  I remember back when Clinton first became president, that after six months, I was notified that I had stopped using black in my work. It is interesting to point out that I did not make this observation myself. This is so simple yet I was blind to it. I think artists get so tied up in their work that it takes an outsider to set the record straight sometimes. Is your art going to change now? Do you have a feeling your art will change? Do you feel the rumblings already? Will it be something as apparent as your palette or will it be more about the subjectivity in your work?  I am willing to bet your work will change though.

  1. I can’t tell how art will change.
    But I can show you.
The only thing that stays the same change, while obama claims his states, i’ll state my claims.
Pretty soon, you’ll stop thinking about the concept “when change happens”
and realized it was always here, what your memory serves you is only that.
You’ll stop thinking about the use of pallette and the idea of subjectivity of work.
Soon it will about your day.
The minute you’re cold, warm, thirsty or just feel alive.
Soon you’ll start to care about the weather.

  2. We will embrace the change and be all the better for it.
Art is change. It always has been and it always will be.

  3. I can’t believe the change in people’s attitudes since Tuesday. Everyone seems to have a spring in their step and a song in their heart. I have noticed that people are returning phone calls and having started contacting us about doing business. People’s hearts seem lighter and their minds clearer and more open. I think this feeling of well-being will show itself in people’s artwork — not just because artists are feeling better in general…but because people are responding more positively to are and buying it more, which of course only heightens the feeling of well-being.

  4. The art, like the weather somehow always changes yet remains predictable. It’s how we respond to it that changes more than the art itself, unless it is the INTENT of the artist to change his/her work deliberately. Generally, in the best of circumstances, we all become more of who we already are; in the worst of them, we become less.

  5. Personally, I have talked to many artists over the last few days and many are saying it will be the same ole same ole and at the same time I feel their energy has shifted possibly even unknown to them. It’s interesting how we, as artists, will sometimes fight the inevitable just for the sake of the fight.
Maybe that’s what makes us unique in our society. “Leave No Rock Unturned!”

  6. art and thought and attitude will absolutely change. as a writer, words are my palette, and my choice of what i write and how i describe my thoughts will be influenced by the release and relief this recent election has brought.
