What is art?
What makes something art?
It something art because an artist deems it as such or is it art already?
What encompasses an art piece?

Everyone knows about Wikipedia. Everyone uses Wikipedia. It’s for finding information about everything from definitions to people, places and things.
Wikipedia is considered collaborative and is consensus driven.
Because it is freely edited, it can change considerable over time.

Now for something I think is very exciting.
Nathaniel Stern and Scott Kildall are positing the idea of Wikipedia art.
Both of these fellow artists utilizing new technologies in their artwork, are exploring the idea of Wikipedia art.

This is so exciting to me. I love that they are pushing the boundaries of our perceptions. I am always telling you guys to push yourself and find new ways to make art.
These two guys are doing it.
They consider Wikipedia art an art intervention whose edits are performative utterances because they can change the work itself. They maintain that Wikipedia art intervenes as a venue in the contemporary construction of knowledge and information and our understanding of art and art objects.

Today the page launches at 3:00PM EST and with any luck we will see some sparks fly.

    Interesting that there seems to be a total meltdown on the AfD (Articles for Deletion) page. Will the fact that Jimmy Wales (Wikipedia founder) presence on Facebook’s Wikipedia Art Fan Page lend any credence to keeping the article on Wikipedia? Interesting!

    Sadly, the Wikipedia Art page went to AfD shortly after it was put up and was illegally deleted by Werdna on Wikipedia. It is sad that it was improperly deleted but this makes a good argument for letting people with boundary issues deal with those in a healthy way. Sometimes hotheads get in the way just like in real life. Let me know your thoughts please. I personally feel this was a great social art experiment.
