You are invited … to consider, muse, and contribute to Earthnic Music…an open-ended, free-spirited discussion of musics from the four corners and beyond…
What is this “Earthnic Music”…why and from whence does it arise and where is it going ?
Oye como va…mi ritmo …bueno pa’gozar …mulata.

Your moderator’s fascination with musics, sounds and shapes, is compelling. I swoon to birdsong, bubble near tumbling water, and sway with wind, too. I am often head knockin’ to rhythmic environmental noises, buzzing license plates and business machines.
Background: I was a NYC metro-music kid; horns, concert band, marching, chorale + theatre (geeky! great!). I loved radio (Cuzin’ Brucey alternating jazz with salsa) and records and gathering around the same daily with friends…throbbing 5-way Fishers and quadraphonic LP’s (fabu with the aprés-school/sports monster bong hit, pre-epic ringaleeveeo). Jazz and Blue Grass hit me in my late teens. Nearly 4 decades later, wider and deeper in great rounds, and just as much soulful fun.
My son Taylor Keola, lives in Hawaii and hits me with lots of fun tracks, as do my high school chargé, and friends at the local market. Our home is full of basses, drums and cans to bang on. I had colorful careers within international airlines, commercial radio in Honolulu, LA, SF, and currently work as an urban school teacher (sic; world language and culture aka Spanish, Radio, street hockey, lacrosse) and worldOnelove dj for higher. I have done some traveling and there is so much more to see, taste, hear, smell. I wonder if I’ll have the pleasure and privilege of realizing long burning yearnings. I produce daily worldOneradio program for a SF bay rim 88.1 keCg 97.7 and produce the annual worldOnefestival along with my beloved wife, acupuncturist Debra Sue Kelvin.
Regarding the “Earthnic Music” hipi banner … it was a gift! I love it! Coltrane, Miles, and The Beatles went to India. It seems to have turned out okay. Conversely, Ravi and Zakir wandered as well (westward? eastward?). It is all good, my friend. Bless it! This is a four corners blog and we’re gonna talk Country, Baroque, polyphany, Calypso, Roots, Rock, and Hip Hop. We love the Ras and we love the Jaz.
We will naturally engage muses, musics, lyrics, poetry, politics, messages, music business, instruments, lyres, synths, arrangements, geography, lineage, chants, fusions, media, the industry (in tumult), sharing, burning, piracy, venues, connections, divergences.
Our collective tone ideally will be inviting, informed and positive. Let’s stir the pot, sit at the table or on the puné and try not to be a cranky- pants, unless you are truly loving and wonderfully didactic. Sharing is caring. Spice is good for food, music and dialogue. There’s no call for unnecessary offense.
Yes, this blog will be open ended and free spirited.
Blagbligblugblog. See? I free-styled. E como mai. = : ) ~

Let’s see who’s out (t)here, check the vibes 1-2, waddayasay :
Is there a workable definition you like of the genre “world music”, albeit liquid? Are there definitions/attitudes you like or don’t particularly curry to?
