A creative blog by Heidi Huber on The Whole 9

Heidi Huber started her career with the sink or swim theory. Luckily she knows the freestyle which has taken her from the Chicago stage to behind the scenes in Los Angeles where she currently continues to tap as The Whole 9’s Chief of Everything Else.

What’s your favorite Broadway play or musical?

New Yorkers — please join us this evening as Peace comes to New York.
The first Broadway musical I saw was “Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” back in 1982.  I was so excited I couldn’t stand it.  I don’t think it was as much the specific musical as it was just seeing something on Broadway.  [...]

What have you bought off of ebay?

Do you know there are paintings selling on ebay for 21 million dollars?!!  Is that insane or what?  That of course includes shipping…
I’ve bought some items off of ebay but it’s usually the stuff that you can simply click “buy now” and not have to worry about checking to see if you’ve been outbid.  My [...]

What’s your favorite thing about New York City?

The Peace Project makes its New York Premiere this Thursday at the old Max Lang Gallery on 10th Ave.
While I haven’t been to New York in a few years, I adore so much of it from the amazing eateries to the endless culture.  One of my faves is the bar inside the Algonquin Hotel.  I’ll [...]

What’s your favorite cover song?

A “cover” is a song you sing that you didn’t write and most of the time that someone else made famous.  Like, if you were to record “She Loves You Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,” people would obviously make the comparison to the Beatles.
Just saw the Big Lubowski for the first time (I know!) and the next [...]

What are you thankful for?

Last night we premiered The Peace Project in Los Angeles.  Not only local artists came out for it, but other Peace Project artists came from out of town and out of state.  Other creatives from The Whole 9 community and beyond attended.  Family, friends and devotees sipped on Veev cocktails, grooved to sounds by DJ [...]

What does Peace sound like?

The Whole 9’s new Featured Band, The Sierra Leone Refugee All-Stars, are a potent example of the redeeming power of music and the ability of the human spirit to persevere through unimaginable hardship and emerge with optimism intact.  The sound of Peace.
Tonight’s Peace Project premieres at Gallery 9 in Culver City.  Please join us anytime [...]

What’s your favorite brand of jeans?

Levi’s has donated a multitude of jeans and denim jackets for The Peace Project.  A donation of $60 or more gets you your favorite style of jeans, and a $90 or more donation gets you a denim jacket.  Super cute styles — thanks Levi’s!  Of course, all proceeds go to the people in Sierra Leone.
When [...]

What’s your favorite spa?

A spa day…ahhh, the thought of it is relaxing.  I can think of few things better than a massage, inhaling that spa aroma of eucalyptus and sipping on orange-and-cucumber-infused water.  One of my favorite haunts is Burke Williams for the mere plush environment.
Come down to Gallery 9 on Saturday for The Peace Project and bid [...]

Do you own a bike?

Kronan Bikes have donated an amazing bike to be auctioned off at the unveiling of The Peace Project. The big event is this Saturday from 5:30pm – 10pm so there is plenty of time to get your bids in on this super cool ride.
I haven’t owned a bike since I was like 18 years old [...]

What does “Peace” mean to you?

Today is World Peace Day.  The UN International Day of Peace on 21 September is not only about creating peace between nations, it’s about non-violence in our homes, communities and schools.  Therefore Peace Day is relevant to every human being on the planet.
As I look around Gallery 9 at the 150 visions of peace, I’ve [...]
