Have you ever re-gifted?

“Tis the season for gifts and giving…” but have you ever gotten a gift that just wasn’t you?  Something you couldn’t imagine ever wearing, hanging on your walls, or using?  If so, what happened to that gift — was it donated or did you (gasp!) re-gift?

When you received a gift that you didn’t want to keep, have you ever re-gifted?

  1. I have re-gifted, a few things, I have also donated gifts. But both of those are rare. Getting rid of a gift in any way creates gut-wrenching guilt in me.

  2. I have gotten some doozies that just weren’t right for me, but are perfect for someone else, so I happily and hopefully ;) re-gift.

  3. One year, my sister got a singing fish from one of our grandma’s. She couldn’t get rid of it (because of the guilt) so it sat in her closet for a year. The next Christmas I re-wrapped the singing fish and gave it to again, as a joke. It spent another year in her closet, then she gave it to our step-sister, who thought it was hilarious and kept it.

  4. Recently, my partner suggested that we re-gift a PF Chang’s gift card she had to her sister on her birthday, along with the beautiful cake we bought her. I dutifully stuck the gift card inside the birthday card. Later, I asked how much the gift card was worth and she said “$50 I think.” The “I think” part stuck with me and I started getting nervous that her sister would show up to the restaurant and the card would be rejected, or worse, for some odd amount like $23.18 if it had inadvertently been used at some point. It’s too late so I’ve got to let it go.

  5. Oh yeah…I’ve re-gifted…but don’t know what happened to the gifts after…

  6. Sadly no, which is why I have more things than I know what to do with~

    Time to change~

  7. I have, I have gotten gifts I really had no use for or didn’t fit.
I am not fond of having things I don’t need so usually re-gift or donate.

  8. No. They are hidden away until judgment day, when they are taken to the edge of the earth and thrown off.

  9. Only for White Elephants or to someone who noticed it and liked it and I no freaking way wanted to keep it. This is why I tell people If you don’t Know Me don’t give me anything please! Most people gift what they like if they don’t really know you. I’d rather they didn’t give anything if it’s not from the heart. If it is from the heart then a handwritten note even is superb! I have one “friend” who keeps giving me things from her garage…dust included…lol wtf.

  10. Nah, I love buying gifts and if I receive anything I don’t want or need, I usually donate it before I have an opportunity to regift it.
