Clay Date…

Gallery 9  continued it’s series of classes, last Saturday,  for our ‘MINI ARTISTS’.  The latest edition was, “working with clay”.  Our little artists, with the help of moms & dads, created small bowls, turtles…even dice!  Some of the artists rolled the clay out to construct objects while some just ‘dug in’ and formed clay into objects of their choice.  Many of the pieces were painted, as well.  A fun, educational and messy time was had!

Artists Helping Japan

Saturday 26th March, 12 noon – 9pm at the Torrance Art Museum

Calling ALL artists

On Saturday 26th March the Torrance Art Museum will place tables out in the patio area and ask that artists who wish to support the relief efforts for Japan bring a small artwork to donate. We will ask $50, cash only, for ALL artworks – all of the funds raised to be donated to the Japanese Red Cross.

Works can be delivered to the museum from 12 noon onwards and will be available to buy at any time, with anything sold removed there and then by buyer. The fundraiser will continue throughout the Opening Reception, from 6-9pm, of the exhibition Gateway Japan – an exhibition of Japanese and Japanese American artists (details below).

FOR THE PUBLIC

Please come and show your support, meet the artists who have flown in from Tokyo for this event as well as our local artists and the artists who are donating to this event – and for the small amount of $50 walk away with an original work of art, see a real Sumo Wrestling bout, meet some great artists, and knowing that a great cause was served too.

Any unsold works will be placed online for sale after the opening reception on a dedicated website.

More information is available at www.torranceartmuseum.com

I’m happy to have art at this event and hope to make it there today. If i do I’ll post photos. I need to buy some art, just donating doesn’t make money. See you around the art.

RE:THINKING INNOVATION

Whole 9 member, Haydn Shaughnessy writes a blog for Forbes.com His latest post, ‘re:thinking innovation” is a great read for any artist.  The title alone made me want to find out more!  The idea, of an idea, being’ just an idea’ or does an idea ( artistic or otherwise) deserve a patent, warrant protection from commercial vultures?  It’s all heady stuff yet some of the most important stuff for the commercial or fine artist.  Another Whole 9′er on the move….congrats Haydn!

Toddlart….

On Saturday, Gallery 9 was transformed into a kids art workshop.  Miniature artists ( the youngest were 2 years old!) filled the gallery, mixing paints and filling small canvas panels with colorful fish, turtles, jets and cats.  The result were some very cool artwork being created ( with a little help from Mom and Dad).  Photos from the workshop are included below.

Rachel Shultz, painter and jewelry maker is selling her paintings off the wall and also marketing her new jewelry line on ETSY.  Rachel has sold so many paintings recently, Gallery 9 had to disappoint a buyer looking to purchase multiple pieces, exhibited during the ‘Small Works Show’.  The four had already been sold to collector Jan Ballard.

So happy that so many are tuned into what drives me day in and day out…

Great minds working together as a collective whole for a better tomorrow~

peace~

It is a wonderful place to “meet up” ’specially if you’re spending so much time alone in the studio…great place for a break to chat…or talk about what you had for lunch. Right Rosendo? ;)

pepperoni pizza…2 slices…..I> I>

Welcome, welcome and this is a fabulous site with wonderful humans running the backbone.

Obviously I like the site and am an active participant. One thing that a couple of new members have mentioned to me though, and I agree with, is that it would be good if there were a way for people to comment on specific, individual pieces of posted artwork (not just on all the art as a whole on a person’s professional portfolio page).
Cheers! Marcel
