TEENY WEENY ARTISTS

The Whole 9 thinks big….then again we think small.  Less is more….great things come in small packages and to prove it we’re having a MINI ART WORKSHOP for our mini artists!  The workshop, for 3-5 year olds will include color mixing, basic drawing and painting.  During the workshop our little artists will create a little work of art to take home.  At the end of the workshop, out mini artists will be invited to create a small addition to our Peace Wall at Gallery 9.  Keep Saturday, February 26th, from 11:00am-12:30 pm open….this will be FUN!

You’ll see how the smallest artist can paint a fish in the ocean

MINI ARTISTS will add art on the PEACE WALL at Gallery 9

This is really awesome. It seems almost inconceivable that Gallery9/The Whole 9 didn’t have any children’s events before!

maybe they just didn’t know anyone crazy enough to teach 3-5 year olds

I assume this is how Monet got his start~

This sounds like great fun and good spirit……children can teach you a lot! As Picasso once said “It takes along time to become young!” Happy painting, everyone.

The untainted, unconstricted, creative energy of children is manifested in their art revealing that we are all artist, it’s is our true essence but we some how lose that idenity as we mature.
We can not teach children but we most certainly can lean from them.

PEACE PROJECT DOWNTOWN TONIGHT!

Selected pieces from the Peace Project traveling exhibit will stop off in the Alexandria Hotel, during the Thursday Night Art Walk, for one night only.  The chosen artwork will be on display in the hotel ( a regular Art Walk destination) on the mezzanine level.  The Hotel Alexandria is located at 501 Spring Street, at the corner of 5th and Spring.

Cardmaking Workshop at the Whole 9

This past Saturday a group of card making artists came together to learn about the history of printmaking ( all the way back to 4000 B.C.) and then get their hands dirty ( inky, really), making Valentine’s Cards and other designs.  The students created their own designs, transferred them to printmaking plates ( foam, actually), inked the plates and made prints.

Below are photos  of both the class and the prints made.

After inking the plate, Lisa adds a little hand coloring into the detail areas

Deborah rolls out ink on glass and gets ready to ‘ink’ here printing plate (in hand)

Sekou removes the plate from his paper….presto….a print

More classes are being planned….hope to see you!

Wow! Very, very cool!! Can’t wait to see some of the creations in person on Wednesday!

Those are some very cool prints~

I recall wanting to learn this fine art back in the day when I attended SMC. They offered a print making class using wood to create plates.

It looks like it’s time to revisit those days of yesteryear~

Dangerous Curves…

” The Human Curve”,  opened Saturday night.  It was a well attended reception, that at times, turned into a dance party!  The Grilled cheese Truck kept everyone fed, while Gallery 9’s Champagne and wine bar kept everyone else happy!  Thanks for coming.

If I coulda, I woulda… be there that is. Sorry I missed the fun and games (and fine art).

That is a bargain for me~

That’s the perfect price-point for my budget. Now, if only gas were free….guess that’s why I bike everywhere!

Does that just mean there’s comp. parking at the Getty?

The show looks BEAUTIFUL! Saturday night….be there.

Hanging Out

Saturday was a huge success at Gallery 9, with a sold out crowd for the latest Get Hung Workshop.  Lisa Schultz (our own, Chief of Everything at the Whole 9) and Robin Fuld (director of Career Services at Laguna Art College) gave advice and fielded questions from a capacity crowd of artists.  Everything from portfolio preparation, artists statements, who to contact  and what to say, were covered in ‘Get Hung’,  the most popular workshop at Gallery 9.    If you couldn’t get into this one,  there WILL be another soon! Lisa explains the ins and outs of getting your work shown.

Hell Yeah!!!

Nothing beats a full house!!

Pack it-Ship it

I thought W9 members would want to see Heidi’s office at Gallery 9.  No, she is not starting a weekend swap meet. Her office has become ground zero for all the gifts and letters being staged and packed for their trip to Sierra Leone.    Members of the Whole 9 community have stepped up,

in a BIG way,  to sponsor the first wave of children assisted by the Peace Project.  Read  Lisa’s blog to find out the latest news on The Peace Project at the Whole 9.  The packages and letters will be arriving with Lisa,  as she makes her way back to Sierra Leone next week.  Heidi will get her office back and Lisa will find out how much really fits into one of those expanding suitcases.  Stay tuned.

if there was a “hell yeah” button here…I’d push it ;)

Words alone cannot express the feeling of immense pride that comes from watching dedicated individuals who give of themselves all because of a belief they all share. The Peace Project has evolved into a movement. To those who believe in a better tomorrow for those who are less fortunate, I say thank you!

Peace and light~

I second (third?) that! Hell Yeah to our community, the sponsors, the kids and to Heidi for all her work and for actually having some idea what size an 8 year old is, and a 9 year old, and a 10 year old is. Can’t wait to share the smiles all of this will bring.

Looks like love in a suitcase…4 days and counting!
